Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: Quest Item Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the items held in the Valuables tab are the mechanisms that drive every questline, unlock every area gate, and determine which of the four endings Bai Wuchang receives.

These 60+ Quest Items appear as purple world pickups or drop automatically from boss defeats — and because several look identical to consumables but must never be used as such, knowing what each item does before touching it is the difference between a complete run and a broken questline.

Every Quest Item location, acquisition method, and delivery target is documented on our Wuchang dynamic maps built by MapMaster's team.

CRITICAL: Do Not Consume the Rings of Samsara

The three Ring of Samsara items — Cause, Effect, and Rebirth — are described in-game as containing a large amount of Red Mercury, making them appear to be high-value consumable XP items. They are not. Do not consume them.

  • Ring of Samsara – Cause — received from Fang Yao at Ruined Reverent Temple. Required for Dream's Sweet Deceit and Bound by Fate's Threads endings.
  • Ring of Samsara – Effect — received from He Youzai at Ruined Reverent Temple after showing him Research Journal – Scrap 3. Required for both endings.
  • Ring of Samsara – Rebirth — forged at the altar in Shrine Dwelling using both Cause and Effect together. Required for Dream's Sweet Deceit. For Bound by Fate's Threads, Rebirth must be consumed from inventory before interacting with the Gate of Truth — this is the only Ring consumption that is intentional.

If Cause or Effect are accidentally consumed before forging, both endings are locked out for the current playthrough. Begin New Game Plus and repeat the relevant questlines.

Three Types of Quest Item

Quest Items divide naturally into three functional categories:

Area Keys — items that unlock gates, passages, and rooms with no further delivery required.

  • The Lightzen Key (from Man-Eating Dhutanga at Lightzen Temple) opens the western gate.
  • The Rebel Camp Key unlocks the gate to the General of the North boss.
  • The Jade Ancient Chisel (from Perfect Bride – Fang Ling at Bride's Boudoir) allows Benediction menu access without visiting a Shrine.

NPC Turn-In Items — items collected in one area and delivered to a specific NPC in another to advance their questline.

  • The Lost Package at Buddha Cliffs → He Youzai at Doomwillow Beach (Pirate Armor Set).
  • The Bloodstained Letter at Shu Sanctum → Yu Xia at Reverent Temple (Luduan Pendant).
  • The Zhenwu Tome from Huang Jian'e at Cloudspire Outskirts → Li Wansan at Snowpeak Pass (Red Mercury Crystal).
  • The Tattered Pack in Snowy Passage → Nian Suichang at Palace Hill area (Sorry Gesture). Many of these also trigger Gesture rewards.

Ending-Critical Items — items that must be held in inventory at specific story moments and cannot be retrieved if used prematurely. Alongside the Rings of Samsara, the Dough Figurine of Mu Guiying must be given to the Child in the Jar at Lightzen Temple (not consumed), and the Gate of Truth item at The Forbidden Lands triggers the ending selection sequence after the final boss.

Four Chisels, Four Different Functions

Four Chisel items drop from major bosses across the campaign — each with a distinct upgrade function:

  • Jade Ancient Chisel — from Perfect Bride – Fang Ling (Bride's Boudoir): access the Benediction menu from anywhere without a Shrine visit
  • Aurum Ancient Chisel — from Sovereign Zhang Xianzhong (Altar Gate): unlocks the final Manna Vase node — see the Lost Remains guide for context
  • Vermilion Ancient Chisel — from Dragon Emperor Zhu Youjian (Burning Cave): required for highest Weapon Mastery level
  • Cyan Feather Chisel — from Eternal Glory Zhao Yun (Avian Marsh): unlocks the final Temper slot

Notable Individual Quest Items

Signal Fires at Cloudspire Outskirts — three mandatory story items found on rooftops. Igniting each Signal Fire removes a nearby Corrupted Pillar blocking story progression. These are not optional collectibles — they are required to advance past the Cloudspire Outskirts area.

Pedestal and Buddha Statue at Palace Hill — two Quest Items found within the same area that combine to drain the flooded Tang Emperor Palace courtyard for the Commander Honglan boss fight. Find the Pedestal near the gazebo on top of the hill, find the Buddha Statue at the end of the alley behind the red pagoda, then place the Statue on the Pedestal to drain the water.

Lustrous Red Feather at Capital Entrance — the only Lustrous Red Feather in the entire game, found as a world pickup, alongside an Avian Tear worth 100,000 Red Mercury on consumption.

The Avian Tear is one of the largest single XP items available — hold it until ready to spend a large amount of Red Mercury at a Shrine.

All Quest Item Locations in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Reverent Temple sees the most Quest Item interactions of any single area — the Silk Manuscript, Peachwood Amulet, Bloodstained Letter delivery, Reverent Temple Key use, and multiple Xuanyangzi return visits all centre here.
